DLI Class Member - Trina Bushman
Trina Bushman is with Tradewinds Construction and serves as the company’s business development, pre-construction/estimating and project manager. Her responsibilities include the identification and securing of future work for Tradewinds by building lasting relationships within the construction, real estate and development markets. She is also responsible for the pre-construction/estimating duties for a large portion of the tenant improvement projects on which Tradewinds bids. She also works on tenant layout and design as required. Lastly, she performs project management as often as her busy schedule will allow. Tradewinds Construction has been doing business in the Las Vegas Valley for the past 22 years. The company is an industry leader in tenant improvements and has a great reputation for quality and service. In addition to its general contracting division, Tradewinds has many other sub-trades, which allows the company to self-perform large portions of the work. It also gives the company the ability to meet aggressive construction schedules and the power to control costs for its clients. Trina has been a member of NAIOP for the past three and a half years, while the owner of Tradewinds, Jeff Vilkin, has been a member of NAIOP since 1998. The company also belongs to NAIOP’s Arizona chapter, following its expansion into that market over the past few years. Trina serves on the Community Service Committee and says, “I love this committee and am very proud of the great things that we as an organization have been able to achieve in helping and supporting our community.” Although Trina has her hands full with her current position, she says she stays involved with NAIOP in order to further develop her leadership skills, gain additional education about the commercial real estate industry and to develop relationships with individuals within the industry. Trina joined the class of 2009/2010 Developing Leaders Institute, and the most interesting part of the class for her was also the most challenging: the class projects! “The experience of creating a development project and presenting it to the investment committee was very exciting! The projects gave us the opportunity to work together with people of other disciplines, to use our interpersonal skills and to use the information that we have gained over the past 18 months. It was interesting to see all that goes into making a development project a reality,” Trina stated. Trina feels the most valuable experience she has gained from being a part of the DLI class is the wonderful friendships that she has been able to form with her classmates, instructors and sponsors. “Being a part of the DLI program has been a wonderful experience. The exposure we are given to the industry’s most influential people is something that would have normally taken years to obtain,” she said. Trina grew up in Salt Lake City and attended the University of Utah. She and her husband moved to Las Vegas over five years ago to help expand his company in a then rapidly-growing market. She has a daughter who just turned a year old on June 1st. She enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her daughter, watching and playing sports, camping, wake boarding, or most anything outdoors. Written by:
