Principal Member- Newland Communities
Newland® is a diversified real estate company with a national platform and over 40 years of recognized experience in multiple classes of real estate. A true operator – not simply an asset manager or financial engineer – Newland and its affiliates have completed, or have underway, more than 140 diverse real estate developments, in excess of 20 million square feet of commercial and retail space and over 175,000 residential units in 14 states. Newland was retained in December 2005 by the City of Las Vegas to act as Symphony Park’s project manager. Symphony Park is a planned 61-acre, mixed-use city neighborhood located in the heart of downtown Las Vegas on land owned by the City. Considered the single most important element of the revitalization of downtown Las Vegas, Symphony Park is anchored by two key public projects: the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, a highly-specialized clinical center housed in an iconic facility designed by famed architect, Frank Gehry; and The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, a magnificent facility designed to become the city’s center of culture by renowned architect David M. Schwarz. Planned to encompass more than 10 million square feet of office, medical, residential, retail and hotel/hospitality space, Symphony Park will be developed over a multi-year timeline with a project value of approximately $6 billion. www.symphonypark.com. Newland in Las Vegas has been involved with NAIOP locally for three years and nationally for two. Currently, Sam Gladstein, vice president of operations, is an appointed member of NAIOP’s Trends in Real Estate Development II Forum. “The Trends in Real Estate Forum help us understand what’s going on in the various regions where Newland has an interest. It also validates our existing knowledge base about commercial real estate both locally and regionally,” says Gladstein. Newland’s company focus is expanding to include more commercial real estate, and NAIOP provides the company with a platform for reaching out to other companies within the commercial real estate industry. “It’s a great way to share and exchange ideas and trend information, as well as to connect with other key decision makers.” For example, Newland/Symphony Park has been active in the annual Off-the-Bus Tour in Las Vegas that highlights commercial projects in the area. Given the level of expertise and leadership within NAIOP, Newland feels its association with the organization increases its credibility in the business community and also helps inform this segment of the development industry about Symphony Park and Newland. Gladstein says, “NAIOP provides a commercial real estate-specific focus and connects us to key decision-makers and leaders within the local, regional and national commercial real estate industry – particularly important to us in the regions where we have projects.” Written by:
