Associate Member - Craig Ruark
Craig A. Ruark is the director of business development for Nevada By Design, a locally owned civil engineering firm that specializes in commercial, industrial, and public works projects. Craig coordinates the marketing efforts of the firm and is responsible for all corporate communications, which includes maintaining the firm’s online presence through its website and social networking, and preparing the firm’s monthly newsletter. Craig moved to Las Vegas on Memorial Day weekend in 1975 to work for a local radio station as a disc jockey and news reporter. He later moved into advertising and sales where he sold, wrote, and produced radio, television, and print advertising. Craig began working in the engineering industry in 1993 and worked for other local civil and geotechnical firms before joining Nevada By Design in March 2003. Craig enjoys working for Nevada By Design because the owners of the firm allow him the freedom to pursue innovative and challenging projects. The firm has adopted the “Integrated Design Approach” as its business philosophy and, as such, works as part of a collective group with project owners and other stakeholders to understand and develop all aspects of the design. This allows the project to emerge organically, with the full benefit of each expert’s input. Craig takes pride in the fact that the primary mission of Nevada By Design is to help its clients reach a higher level of success. Craig joined NAIOP in 2008 and is actively involved in the Sustainable Development and Communications Committees, where he employs writing and marketing skills to increase awareness of sustainability issues and promote NAIOP causes and events. Craig credits his NAIOP membership with creating an opportunity for him to interact directly with architects, contractors, and developers, which are his firm’s primary customers. As a LEED AP-certified professional, Craig also appreciates NAIOP’s commitment to innovation in advancing sustainable development and quality design. Craig lives in the Summerlin community of Siena with his wife. He and his wife enjoy playing golf and, for the past twenty years, have sailed Lake Mead, San Diego Bay, the San Juan Islands, Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands. By Bart K. Larsen, Kolesar & Leatham
