President's Message
Dear Members and Readers; As we enter into the dog days of summer here in Southern Nevada, I can’t help but look toward the fall when the temperatures are cooler and everyone’s focus is back on business. While NAIOP provided members with a steady pace of information and activities this summer, the chapter is preparing for what is shaping up to be a busy fall season. In case you missed any of our events and announcements throughout the summer, this issue of NAIOP Now will provide you with recaps that will bring you up to speed on the latest happenings. Over the last several months, our chapter had many reasons to celebrate. In June, we hosted a graduation ceremony and dinner for the 2010 class of our Developing Leaders Institute (DLI.) These young people have worked hard and I know they will continue to do great things. I would also like to personally thank everyone who helps make DLI possible. Through the help of our sponsors, committee members, chapter leaders and presenters, together, we are able build a better tomorrow. You can read more about the class and see photos in the DLI section of this issue. In addition, I am proud to bring to your attention several accomplishments of our fellow members as well as our Government Affairs team. Most recently, two NAIOP Southern Nevada members have received appointments to two of Nevada’s economic diversification committees. In addition, our Government Affairs Committee leaders have been successful in their lobbying efforts to improve our state's economic future. You can read more about both of these items in the news section of this issue. In the last few months we have had a number of events including member breakfasts, mixers, webinars and summer school sessions. If you haven’t been able to make it to any of these, you will find recaps in our events and committee updates sections. In the coming months, there will be many important legislative issues for you to consider. For starters, the general election for our state and federal officials will be held on Tuesday, November 2. In addition, our federal officials are voting daily on legislation that may impact you and your businesses. Our Government Affairs Committee is working hard to ensure these issues are monitored and pursued when necessary. You can find information about the committee in this issue. We also have many events planned for the fall season. I encourage you to mark your calendars now for these networking events. On August 25, we will have a bowling social at Gold Coast Bowling Center; September 29 there will be a developing leader mixer at Sierra Gold and also the Bus Tour Committee is planning to host the annual event on September 30. For more information, please visit the events section of this issue. Now more than ever, we encourage you to take advantage of the networking opportunities, legislative voice, and consistent and timely communication that NAIOP offers. I hope you enjoy this issue of NAIOP Now and your last few weeks of summer. I look forward to seeing you at an event soon. Sincerely,
