Appointments & Updates
A message from the President
I am excited to bring to your attention today several accomplishments of our fellow members as well as our Government Affairs team. Most recently, two NAIOP Southern Nevada members have received appointments to two of Nevada's economic diversification committees. In addition, our Government Affairs Committee leaders have been successful in their lobbying efforts to improve our state's economic future.
I would like to congratulate NAIOP Southern Nevada members Tony Dazzio on his recent appointment to the Nevada Commission on Economic Development (NCED) and to Ralph Murphy on his appointment to the New Nevada Task Force. The service of Tony and Ralph on these prestigious panels will provide NAIOP an influential role in shaping the economic future of Nevada, and ensures that the needs of our industry will be heard as lawmakers address how to fix and diversify the state's economy.
Dazzio, past president of NAIOP Southern Nevada and chair of its Government Affairs Committee, was appointed by Governor Jim Gibbons to serve on NCED, a seven-member board that works to develop and maintain a diverse economic base in Nevada. Dazzio was tapped for his extensive experience in business development to help the commission attract new companies to the state that will improve the state's economic future and put Nevadans back to work.
Murphy, also a past president of NAIOP Southern Nevada and member of its Government Affairs Committee, was appointed by Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki to serve on the New Nevada Task Force. The newly created business diversity panel is comprised of 27 Nevada influential business leaders from diverse backgrounds, who will meet regularly to develop recommendations to the 2011 state Legislature.
Additionally, we are pleased to announce the success of our lobbying efforts with the state Legislative Commission's Subcommittee to study the Development and Promotion of Logistics and Distribution Centers and Issues Concerning Infrastructure and Transportation. Several NAIOP recommendations were included for the committee to consider at its final meeting last month. I would like to personally thank Government Affairs Committee chairs John Ramous and Suzette LaGrange as well as our lobbying firm McDonald Carano Wilson for their dedication and leadership on this issue.
