The Best Education Under the Sun… The NAIOP Education Committee held a workshop on the morning of May 25, 2010, offering training and education regarding our local Las Vegas soils conditions. The presentation at the GeoTek offices was given by Mr. Justin Stratton P.E., Chief Engineer of GeoTek, a local geotechnical and materials engineering firm. The workshop reviewed the pros and cons of local soils conditions, with a major part of the presentation on expansive soils, and a discussion of sulfates in our local soils. Those in attendance received a further treat, an onsite visit to the GeoTek, where their laboratory manager gave a presentation on concrete, namely compression strength testing, which is the process by which they can verify that the specified concrete was used on any particular project.
