Chapter President
As we enter the New Year, I would like to take a moment to thank you each of you for your support of our chapter last year. In 2007, our organization grew to a record number of members and celebrated great accomplishments in our government affairs, sustainability, community service, educational initiatives, special events and programs.

Looking forward to 2008, we have many exciting opportunities available for our members and sponsors. Whether it’s giving back to our community, staying informed of state and local public policy issues, networking with friends and colleagues, or learning more about our industry, you can do it with NAIOP.

For those of you looking to get involved with a committee, you will now have one more to consider. The newly formed Developing Leaders Committee will focus its efforts on our members under 35. The committee’s primary focus will be to oversee our chapter’s Developing Leaders Institute, a 12-month, leadership and education program specifically designed for members under the age of 35. The inaugural class began with a retreat at Lake Las Vegas in early January.

Another one of our goals this year to enhance our support of UNLV’s LIED Institute for Real Estate Studies by increasing our contributions to a scholarship program. In 2008, we will provide a full scholarship to a deserving student to cover the cost of an entire semester of classes. In addition, our Education Committee is continuing its efforts to provide mentors to students studying commercial real estate.

Our Community Service Committee will oversee our chapter’s efforts to support children and seniors in need. In 2008, we are continuing our support of Communities in Schools and Helping Hands of Southern Nevada and have committed our time and resources to assisting these groups. Look for more information coming soon about the first fundraiser.

Our breakfast meetings resumed in January at The Orleans Hotel and Casino. The Programs Committee has put together a great line up of speakers and panelists to discuss a variety of industry trends and topics.

The Spotlight Committee is in the midst of planning this year’s event, which is right around the corner. The event is a great way for us to celebrate our accomplishments and recognize our peers for their outstanding projects. This year’s Spotlight Awards themed “NAIOP’s 11” will be held at the Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino. Invitations will be coming soon and you do not want to miss out. I encourage each of you to RSVP early.

As we prepare for an exciting year, I challenge you to become actively involved with the chapter and its committees. With so much to choose from, I know you will discover an opportunity to assist you in your professional growth. Happy and Prosperous New Year!
